Whatcom Co. LTE Links

Below you will find directions, links, and addresses for Letter to the Editor submittals for some of our local publications:

THE NORTHERN LIGHT
Currently, on The Northern Light’s recently revamped website, I could find no statemet of rules for LTEs. I believe letters can be up to 350 words. They do now have an online form you can use to easily submit your LTE at this address, http://www.thenorthernlight.com/submit-a-letter/
Below is a description of The Northern Light’s LTE policy from their former website:
“The Northern Light welcomes letters to the editor; however, the opinions expressed are not those of the editor. Letters must include name, address and daytime telephone number for verification. Letters must not exceed 350 words and may be edited or rejected for reasons of legality, length and good taste. Thank you letters are limited to five individuals or groups. A fresh viewpoint on matters of general interest to local readers will increase the likelihood of publication. Writers should avoid personal invective. Unsigned letters will not be accepted for publication. Requests for withholding names will be considered on an individual basis. Only one letter per month from an individual correspondent will be published.”
Please email letters to letters@thenorthernlight.com

THE BELLINGHAM HERALD
“Only original, signed letters of 1,400 characters (including spaces) or less from Whatcom County residents will be considered for publication. A phone number and home street address must be included for verification..

“Letters may be edited and all submissions become the property of The Bellingham Herald. By sending this submission to The Bellingham Herald, you have represented that you are 18 years of age or older and the author and copyright owner of the submission and/or have all rights necessary to provide this submission to The Bellingham Herald and you have granted The Bellingham Herald an irrevocable, royalty-free license to publish, republish, resell, distribute, copy and edit the submission an unlimited number of times in any print, electronic or other medium.

“Letters are often posted to the website before they appear in print.”

THE FERNDALE RECORD
Recent LTE policy was that The Ferndale Record accepted online submissions of up to 1000 characters. Submit your letters to: news@ferndalerecord.com

WHATCOM WATCH:
“*Letters to the Editor: LTEs should address a topic of interest to Whatcom Watch readers or relate to a previously published article in Whatcom Watch. Be brief/succinct (no more than about 500 words) and include your full name, hometown and phone number to verify identification. Attach as an MSWord doc (any version) or text doc or paste into the body of an email, addressed to: editor@whatcomwatch.org ”

CASCADIA WEEKLY:
“LETTERS POLICY: Cascadia Weekly reserves the right to edit letters for length and content. When apprised of them, we correct errors of fact promptly and courteously. In the interests of fostering dialog and a community forum, Cascadia Weekly does not publish letters that personally disparage other letter writers. Please keep your letters to fewer than 300 words.”
